The List – September/October

Where to eat in September...

We get asked a lot about where to eat and drink in Manchester. So we’re putting together a monthly list of where to go. It’s not anywhere or anything specific, a mixture of new things going on and places of old that are doing some exciting stuff. Basically, where we plan to visit over the next couple of months.

1. Pho Cue Kitchen

We’ll keep going on about Pho Cue, easily our favourite opening this summer. Go for the Lobster Pho Sundays, the Banh Mi’s and the ribs made with a homemade family recipe. Cue’s BBQ Thursday’s are also launching in September, another reason to visit.

2. Mumma’s Fried Chicken – Mackie Mayor

I don’t know whether  the chicken burgers are getting better and better here, or maybe they just made a burger that’s exactly what I want, hot sauce aioli and cheese.

3. Corner Slice

Neapolitan pizza has been having a moment for a long time in Manchester. In steps Corner Slice in Failsworth — Detroit Style pizza from Danny Broadbent (ex-Fin Fish Bar/Tender Cow) and Frank Bradshaw (ex-Gorilla).  Pan style with a crispy cheese crust We love it here.

4. Escape to Freight Island

A huge outdoor venue that despite the circumstances was ace for us on our Saturday night visit. Baraxturi’s wood fire pit and Krum’s vegan donuts were our highlights. Patty Queen’s burgers look solid too.

5. Piazza – A new pasta concept by Ciaooo

Ciaooo are launching a new project in Arndale Market. Neapolitan pizza was a crowded space when they arrived and they brought something new to the table, I reckon they’ll do the same with pasta. Expect their famous burrata to feature heavily on the menu.

6. Ply Squared

Sugo and Salvis have been our pasta places of choice for a while now but an affordable pasta spot in the NQ with talk of being like Padella in London? And it’s 50% off every Thursday? It’s saying all the right stuff.

7. Buzzrocks

Running a small restaurant is a brutal amount of work. Happy birthday then to Buzzrocks celebrating their 30th birthday this week. A really impressive milestone for a family run spot. The gravy could well be the best we’ve ever had.

8. Doner Summer @ YES
